U.S. Market

U.S. stocks tumbled, paring a weekly advance for the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, after weaker-than- forecast growth in company payrolls added to evidence the economic recovery is slowing.

Companies in the U.S. added workers in July for a seventh straight month at a pace that suggests the labor-market recovery will be slow to take hold.

European Market

European stocks climbed over the week as earnings from HSBC Holdings Plc to BNP Paribas offset weaker- than-forecast U.S. data that reignited concerns about the strength of the recovery in the world’s biggest economy.

U.K. manufacturing increased for a second month in June in the best calendar quarter for factory production in more than a decade as the economic recovery strengthened.

Industrial production in Germany unexpectedly declined in June led by a drop in investment goods such as machinery and trucks

Japan Market

Most Japanese stocks rose, sending benchmark indexes to their third consecutive weekly advance, as lower vacancies boosted real-estate companies for a second day. Mitsubishi Estate Co., Japan’s biggest developer by market value, climbed after a private report showed Tokyo’s office vacancies fell in July

Asia / Pacific Market

Asian stocks rose, driving the MSCI Asia Pacific Index to its fifth weekly advance, as investor expectations of improving corporate earnings in the region overshadowed concerns that employment in the U.S. will falter.

Taiwan’s Taiex index rose. China Airlines Ltd. rose to the highest since June 26, 2008. The company’s July sales rose 68 percent to NT$13.24 billion from a year earlier, it said in an exchange filing. Celxpert Energy Corp. surged 6.8 percent to the highest since Oct. 7, 2009. Dynapack International Technology Corp. agreed to buy Celxpert for NT$5.8 billion ($182 million) in shares to add customers.

South Korea’s Kospi index fell, but rose for the fifth consecutive week. Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., a South Korean builder, advanced 1.5 percent. Daewoo Engineering won a $438 million order to build a power plant from General Electricity Company of Libya, the Seoul-based company said in a regulatory filing.

Australia’s building industry shrank in July at the fastest pace in a year, adding to evidence the central bank’s six interest rate increases between October and May are eroding demand for new dwellings.

China/ Hong Kong Market

China’s stocks rebounded, extending gains for the benchmark index to a third week, as concerns eased about banks’ stress tests and agricultural companies advanced after the country’s worst floods in a decade boosted food prices.

Hong Kong stocks rose, lifting the benchmark index to its biggest weekly gain in four months, as better-than-estimated earnings from Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd. and Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. overshadowed an unexpected increase in U.S. jobless claims.

Emerging Markets

The Bovespa stock index fell, paring the measure’s third weekly gain, after a report showed employers added fewer jobs than forecast in the U.S., Brazil’s second- largest trading partner.

Bond Market

Treasuries rallied, pushing two-year note yields below 0.50 percent for the first time, after the government’s payrolls report showed the economy lost more jobs in July than economists forecast.
